Staple food in Berkeley for students. Great food and drink specials The food quality is what you pay for. A bit on the cheaper side but good value. Quick and simple service and overall coming back for happy hours!

On almost every trip back to Berkeley, I stop at Cafe Durant for breakfast on the patio. I always get the crepes with bananas and strawberries, which somehow reminds me of Berkeley. On my last visit, I got the same order, and it was served cold-ish, as in colder than lukewarm. I always thought the crepes were fresh, but this time I got the vibe the crepes were frozen. They made another order because of the temp, and the next back were definitely warmer. Undecided if I'll keep up my tradition. Maybe I will, but get something different. An extra star of the nostalgia and the many excellent visits.

What I ordered: Quesa Birrias - It came with broth, three quesa birria tacos, rice and beans. Wish I had more tacos instead of rice and beans but the flavor was really good. Don Diablo Burrito - It's my go to wet burrito in Berkeley. I absolutely love the amount of flavor packed in the sauce and there is a reasonable amount of protein in the burrito as well. On the menu it has two fire icons next to the name, meaning it's one of the spicier options on the menu. However, if you can handle your spice, it's practically nothing. As a student who used to do back to back closing shifts into opening shifts, Cafe Durant was such a blessing. While the food isn't the best, Cafe Durant is super convenient for busy people living near campus. Not a lot of places around campus open early so this was my go to spot to grab a quick bite before class if I didn't have time to cook. They even have wifi so I would study here from time to time while I eat. If you're looking for food, I highly recommend the Mexican Cuisine as they specialize in that more and the food is pretty good. The other breakfast options on the menu are solid but pretty typical in my experience. The home fries in particular are not crispy. I might be biased but I really love Cafe Durant as it's always been here for me. Cheers!

I ordered ahead a sundeck combo D and agua fresca for pick up. It turned out they were out of agua fresca, so I got horchata instead. I like that this cafe offers various combos since I enjoy getting to try various different foods at once. However, the omelette to me felt pretty bland and I think it could've used more spices, sauce, and/or flavoring (though I don't have omelettes very often, so maybe this is typical). However, I thought the strawberry banana crepe and especially the chocolate chip pancakes were yummy, great for any sweet carb lover. The fruit salad was fine, nothing particularly of note. The horchata was pretty good too, I only would've liked maybe a larger cup. Overall, the food was decent, and admittedly the omelette made me skew more toward wanting to rate it a 3, so I'd say it was more of a 3.5 overall since I liked the other items.
